I believe this husband and wife team tend to emulate a lot of households out there. When you go to the wine store do you buy for just your palate or do you have another constituent in the household who is influencing your purchase?
For example, I love Rieslings. My wife, is for the most part not a fan. Because of this, I find I only buy Rieslings on special occasion or to pair with a specific food. I guess this is because I'm trying to please both our palates. One solution would be to just buy more wine, wines for both our palates. (And I do sometimes) But in order to stay within the budget, I tend to try to find the middle ground.
What do you do? Do you try and please a spouse, partner, hell a roommate with your purchases? Or do you just say damn them and buy whatever you like?

This is truly a dilemna, although those of you that know my wife know she will pretty much pour anything down her gullet : )
However, there are times when I am in the mood for a particular wine, and I don't buy it because I know she prefers something else.
I say from now on, buy what makes you happy...if your partner doesn't like it, let them go out and spedn their own money on the bottle of their choice!
Unfortunately, I don't have anyone whom I have to please when it comes to wine. So I just buy whatever I want. Hmmm. Maybe it's not unfortunately, after all.
Absolutely. The worst for me is when out with several clients, trying to order a wine that will please everyone when their knowledge of wine varies drastically. Once having a client tell me he loved Black Opal and another at the table telling me his neice used to own a winery. I ended up just ordering what I like to drink. Everyone except the Opal drinker seemed pleased with the Zin we went with.

Yeah, it can be a problem, trying to please the spouse. At least in my case we both favor red wine, just different varietals. My bigger problem is funding my wine choices!
